There is plenty to celebrate, with three CNWL clinicians recognised at this year's Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) London Division Awards - including one colleague bringing home the prestigious Psychiatrist of the Year award.

Congratulations to:

• Dr Mehtab Ghazi Rahman, winner of Psychiatrist of the Year
• Dr Win Min Thet, shortlisted for Higher Resident Doctor of the Year
• Dr Theodoros Mavrogiannidis, shortlisted for SAS Doctor of the Year

Dr Mehtab Rahman was recognised for his leadership and contributions across the Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service (MHCAS), psychiatric intensive care, acute inpatient services and inpatient services at St Charles Hospital.

His work has focused on improving patient safety, strengthening clinical pathways, increasing access for vulnerable groups and developing services that provide timely, compassionate and effective care for people experiencing a mental health crisis.

The award comes at a time when the innovative work of Mehtab and his teams is attracting growing attention nationally. Earlier this month, Mehtab and MHCAS Service Manager, Thorarinn Freysson, represented CNWL at the Design in Mental Health 2026 conference, where they showcased the impact the service is having on mental health crisis care.

Alongside improvements to clinical care, Mehtab and colleagues have also led digital innovations to make services safer and more efficient. Inpatient teams across St Charles Hospital, the Health-based Place of Safety (HpBOS), MHCAS and community crisis services introduced a digital handover system that allows clinical teams to track and update tasks in real time.

Speaking about his award, Mehtab added:

“I am deeply honoured to have been awarded the RCPsych London Division Psychiatrist of the Year Award 2026. This recognition reflects the extraordinary teams I have had the privilege of working with every day. 

"I am incredibly proud of what we continue to achieve together for our patients, carers and colleagues, supporting people through some of the most difficult and challenging times in their lives. This award belongs as much to my colleagues as it does to me and is a testament to their dedication, compassion and commitment to delivering outstanding mental healthcare.

"I would especially like to thank Dr Aladdin Shirazi, Dr Con Kelly and Professor Simon Edwards for their encouragement, support and for nominating me for this prestigious award.”

CNWL was also represented by Dr Win Min Thet, Higher Resident Doctor at New Beginnings in Brent. Win was recognised for her commitment to supporting junior doctors and leading with kindness and compassion.

Win said:

"As a higher psychiatry trainee, I am committed to advocating for junior resident doctors, fostering a safe and supportive working environment. I believe that empowering every member of the team to feel valued, respected and heard is essential to delivering excellence in patient care."

Dr Theo Mavrogiannidis, Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry at Pine Ward, Park Royal Centre for Mental Health, said:

“I’m delighted to be shortlisted and grateful for the recognition from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. It’s a privilege to represent CNWL and to support and champion my specialty, associate specialists and specialist (SAS) colleagues".
