Behind every great nursing team is a group of Healthcare Support Workers getting on with the job, making a real difference to patients, families and colleagues every single day.

This year, two exceptional Healthcare Support Workers from Milton Keynes Community Nursing have been recognised at a national level, receiving the Chief Nursing Officer Support Worker Excellence Award.

Congratulations to Julie Lurie and Chantal Balchin!

These national awards, run by NHS England, are all about recognising Healthcare Support Workers who consistently live and breathe the NHS values in their day‑to‑day roles.

Whether it’s delivering outstanding compassionate care, supporting colleagues at the toughest moments, or making patients feel listened to, respected and safe, the CNO Awards celebrate those who make a lasting impact. 

Chantal Balchin, Community Nursing Healthcare Support Worker said of the win:

"Receiving this award was a lovely surprise. Caring for patients is something I'm passionate about, and it's a privilege to do this work every day. I'm thankful to be part of such a compassionate and hardworking team."

Lorraine Gardiner, Lead Nurse for Community Health Services, praised the achievement:

"Julie and Chantal were praised for the unwavering dedication, compassion and kindness they show to patients and colleagues every single day. They consistently go above and beyond for everyone they encounter, and it truly shines through.

We are incredibly proud to have them in our team - well done, both!"

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Awards are one of the ways the NHS shines a spotlight on those individuals who truly go above and beyond.
